Seven addl judges of Karnataka HC, three from Madras HC made permanent

The Central government has signed off on the appointment of seven additional judges of the Karnataka High Court and three additional judges of the Madras High Court as permanent judges.

Justices Kempaiah Somashekar, KS Mudagal, Sreenivas H Kumar, John Michael Cunha, Basavaraj A Patil, NK Sudhindrarao, and Dr HB Prabhakara Sastry, have been appointed as permanent judges of the Karnataka High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the same last month.

At the Madras High Court, Justices RMT Teeka Raman, N Satish Kumar, and N Seshasayee have been appointed as permanent judges, after the Collegium recommended the same vide a resolution passed on October 9.

With these appointments, the Karnataka High Court will now have 22 permanent judges and 7 additional judges, as against a sanctioned strength of 47 and 15 respectively. More than half the posts remain vacant.

The Madras High Court will now have 43 permanent judges and 19 additional judges, as against a sanctioned strength of 56 and 19.
