NJAC one step closer to reality; Gujarat becomes fourth state to ratify 121st Constitutional Amendment Bill

The Gujarat State Assembly on Monday ratified the constitutional amendment required to establish the National Judicial Appointments Commission. The constitutional amendment was passed with a voice vote. Earlier this year, the National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha in August to set up a judicial appointment panel which would replace the existing collegium system for appointments in the higher judiciary.
