The Central Government has today notified the appointment of Allahabad High Court judge, Justice Krishna Murari as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Justice Murari has been serving as a judge of the Allahabad High Court since 2004. He was elevated as an additional judge of the Court in 2004 and became a permanent judge in August 2005.

Justice Murari will be taking over from Acting Chief Justice AK Mittal, who had been hurriedly appointed on the midnight following the retirement of erstwhile Chief Justice SF Vazfidar on May 3.

The notification dated today, affirming Chief Justice Murari’s appointment states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 217 of the Constiution of India, the President is pleased to appoint  Shri Justice Krishna Murari, Judge of the Allahabad High Court, to be the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryan High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.
