Five Additional Judges of Calcutta High Court made permanent [Read Notification]

The Central Government has notified the appointment of five additional judges of the Calcutta High Court as permanent judges. As per a notification issued today, the following judges have been made permanent judges of the High Court, i.e. Justices

1. Rajasekhar Mantha
2. Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya
3. Mrs.Moushumi Bhattacharya
4. Shekhar Bobby Saraf
5. Rajarshi Bharadwaj

The notification has been issued pursuant to a Collegium recommendation passed in July this year.

By the same resolution, the Collegium had also resolved to renew the term of Additional Judge, Justice Protik Prakash Banerjee for another six months. The Collegium made the recommendation after opining that it needed to review his work further before he is considered for appointment as a permanent judge.  In this regard, the resolution had stated,

“Mr. Justice Protik Prakash Banerjee be appointed as Additional Judge for a fresh term of six months w.e.f. 21st  September 2019 with a view to watch his performance as such.”

Accordingly, the Central Government has also issued a separate notification appointing Justice Banerjee as an additional judge for a six month term starting from September 21, 2019.

All six judges were appointed to the Calcutta High Court Bench in September 2017.
