Former Additional Solicitor General of India, Senior Advocate Amarendra Sharan passed away after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 70 years old. He passed away this morning in his sleep at Ananda resorts near Rishikesh.

Amarendra Sharan had served as the Additional Solicitor General of India for a five year term between August 2004 and June 2009.

Among the other roles, he has also served as the special counsel for the Central Bureau of Investigation to appear before the Supreme Court in the Coalgate case. In 2017, he was appointed as an amicus curiae to assist the top court in a petition seeking to re-investigate the murder of Mahatma Gandhi.
