In a detailed judgment passed last week, the First Bench of the Uttarakhand High Court issued numerous directions to the State Election Commission and subordinate officials to curb electoral malpractices in the State.
The Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Alok Verma issued the directions while disposing of two PILs filed raising the issue, and in particular highlighting rampant practices of horse trading, bribery and intimidation that were tainting local body elections.
