Centre clears two names for appointment as judges to Jammu & Kashmir HC [Read Notification]

The Central Government has cleared two names for appointment as judges to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

The names approved by the Centre are those of advocate Sindhu Sharma and judicial officer Rashid Ali Dar.

Sindhu Sharma is credited as the first lady advocate of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to have been appointed as an Assistant Solicitor General of India. Rashid Ali last served as a Principal District and Sessions judge at Srinagar.

The notification intimating their elevation to the High Court Bench states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 95 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, the President is pleased to appoint (i) Smt. Sindhu Sharma, (ii) Shri Rashid Ali Dar, to be Judges of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, in that order of seniority, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.”

The appointment has been made pursuant to a Supreme Court Collegium resolution passed last April, which had recommended a total of four names.
