Two Additional Judges appointed to Punjab and Haryana High Court [Read Notification]November 14 2018
The Central Government has notified the appointment of two judicial officers as additional judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Pursuant to a Supreme Court Collegium resolution passed last month, the government has given the green signal to the appointment of Lalit Batra and Arun Kumar Tyagi as additional judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court for a period of two years. The notification issued today states,
"In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri (1) Lalit Batra and (2) Arun Kumar Tyagi, to be Additional Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. in that order of seniority, for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices."
With their appointment, the working strength of the High Court rises to 54 judges, against a sanctioned strength of 85 judges. Last month, the Centre had signed off on the appointment of four advocates as additional judges of the High Court.
The High Court will see more changes in personnel in the weeks to come. Justices Rajesh Bindal and PB Bajanthri are expected to be transferred to the High Courts of Jammu and Kashmir and Karnataka respectively, while Justices Nirmaljit Kaur and Ravi Ranjan will take office at the High Court.
