Two Additional Judges of the Allahabad High Court have been appointed as Permanent Judges today..President of India Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Justice Rajiv Lochan Mehrotra and Justice Krishna Singh as Permanent Judges of the High Court with immediate effect..These names were recommended to be appointed as Permanent judges by the Supreme Court Collegium earlier this month..The Collegium of the Allahabad High Court had recommended eight names of Additional Judges for appointment as Permanent Judges, however, the Supreme Court Collegium chose to consider only the cases of Justices Rajiv Lochan Mehrotra and Krishna Singh for the time being, given their imminent retirements..The proposal pertaining to make the other six judges permanent will be taken up at an appropriate stage, the Collegium resolution dated May 4 noted..The President today, exercising his power under Article 217 of the Constitution of India, signed off on the appointment of these two judges as permanent judges of the Allahabad High Court..Recently, the Collegium had reiterated its recommendation to make another additional judge of the High Court permanent.
