TNNLS VC Prof Murugavel resigns over differences with Exec Council

Prof Murugavel, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu National Law School has resigned from the post, citing differences with the university’s Executive Council..Speaking to Bar & Bench, Murugavel said that he had lost the confidence of the Council despite doing his “level best” for the fledgling university..The Executive Council of the university comprises a High Court judge, the Advocate General of the state and other senior lawyers. A lack of co-operation exhibited by the administration ultimately led Murugavel to take the decision yesterday..He said,.“I had signed MoUs with various universities and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India within two years of my joining. These were supposed to be done only after 5-6 years. I also had plans of signing MoUs with foreign universities, including one in China, but the Council did not support me.”.His replacement is V Arun Roy, Joint Secretary of the Finance Department of Tamil Nadu. According to the university, Roy, an IAS officer, joined TNNLS as Registrar and will perform the duties of the Vice-Chancellor simultaneously..Murugavel was instrumental in trying to bring TNNLS into the CLAT fold last year.
