Tis Hazari Violence: CJ holds meeting with Delhi Police Officials, DHCBA requests members to abstain from work on Nov 4

Following the violent clash between the Delhi Police and lawyers at the Tis Hazari Court Complex, the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court Justice DN Patel yesterday held a meeting with the seven senior-most Judges of the High Court to discuss the issue, PTI has reported..The meeting which went for over five hours was attended by the Joint Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Delhi Additional Chief Secretary, Delhi Government..In the meeting, the Judges of the High Court were informed by the Delhi Police Officials that an FIR has already been lodged with respect to the incident and an investigation was ongoing..Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has requested its members to register protest by abstaining from work on Monday, November 4..An intimation to this effect has been sent to all the members by the DHCBA..In order to avoid inconvenience to the Courts and to the litigants, the DHCBA would depute proxy counsel in every court and a list of proxy counsel will be duly circulated..The DHCBA has also resolved that the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice DN Patel may order an immediate judicial inquiry into the incident and may recommend action against the delinquent police official..While inquiry/action is pending, the concerned DCP and ACP may also be placed under suspension, DHCBA has resolved..DHBCA has also sought registration of an FIR against the delinquent police officials for their criminal acts..A scuffle broke out between lawyers and police personnel at Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court Complex earlier today after an argument between a lawyer and the police over parking..The altercation soon escalated and resulted in serious violence in the Court Complex which included a lawyer getting shot..As per the statement issued by the Delhi Police, 20 police officials including one Addl DCP and 2 SHOs sustained injuries. In the fire, 12 private motorcycles, 1 QRT gipsy of police & 8 jail vans outside the lock-up were damaged, it is informed..The statement further informs that complaints from both sides have been registered and an SIT of the crime branch would investigate the cases..The Delhi Police has also clarified that gunshots were fired in the air for the safety of under trial prisoners and in self-defence after a group of lawyers stormed the police lockup. The circumstances of the gunshot injury to the lawyer is also being investigated with the help of the CFSL team..The condition of the lawyer who sustained gunshot injuries is critical but under control.
