Kanade J. said that accidents were happening everyday hence inadequate medical supplies and facilities were not going to solve this problem. He asked for the railways to consider setting up a team of 4-5 people who can specifically look after providing medical facilities to victims, like giving them instant pain killers. He also asked the railways to set up EMR’s(Emergency medical rooms) at all stations. Suresh Kumar pointed out the huge costs that the railways would have to bear..“To save the life of a victim, railways must make these arrangements” Kanade said..Arif Doctor said the railways made a profit of Rs.1,500 crores in 2015 in the Mumbai region. He also said that EMR’s available with the authorities are also given on rent to private parties hence the costs involved could be taken care of..Railways also said that the process of setting up EMR’s has already begun between Virar and Dahanu, arrangements with private hospitals are also being made. The bench appreciated the seriousness that the railways had shown in the matter but much needed to be done.
