5. Shobhha De v. Chairman, Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat and Ors.

A petition filed by Shobhaa De challenging the notice of privilege motion moved against her by the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for her tweets against a government order.

The government order mandated that every multiplex should screen at least one Marathi film between 6 pm to 9 pm everyday. De had taken a dig at the order and tweeted:

“No more pop corn at multiplexes in Mumbai? Dahi misal and vada pav only. To go better with the Marathi movies at prime time.”

The Supreme Court had stayed the privilege motion against her in April and sought the response of Maharashtra Legislative Secretariat. The Court had allowed the Maharashtra government to implead itself in the matter.

Today in court: The Court closed the case after De’s lawyer informed the Court that the Maharashtra Assembly accepted De’s reply to the notice of privilege motion.

7. Nipun Saxena and Anr v. Union Of India And Ors.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a student of the National Law University, Delhi. The petition has sought to draw the Court’s attention to the manner in which private buses operate in and around the National Capital Region. The reliefs sought by the Petitioner include revocation of licenses of those permit holders who are in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, an enquiry into the “antecedents” of such drivers/license holders and examination of the validity of the “two finger” test as a medical procedure. The petition has also sought the creation of a Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB) for offences such as that of rape.

When the matter was heard in 2013, the Court had issued notice to the Respondents.

Appeals filed by Yu Televentures, a subsidiary company of Micromax and the founder of Micromax Rahul Sharma against the adverse orders passed against the company by a Single Bench, recently. Bailable warrants had been issued by the Single Bench against directors of Yu which included Rahul Sharma.

Today in Court- Warrants against all the directors were discharged. Senior Advocates Gopal Subramanium and Pratibha M Singh appeared for Ericcson while Senior Advocates PV Kapur, Sandeep Sethi and Dayan Krishnan appeared for Micromax and its directors. The matter will now be heard on December 15.

Petition filed by the All India Footwear Manufacturers and Retailers Association alleging violation of the government’s FDI policy by e-commerce majors.

On the last date of hearing, the Bench had granted time of four weeks for completing investigations into all the 21 e-commerce websites for determination of any violation of norms.

Today in Court- An association, All India Traders Confederation sought impleadment in the matter. The Court however adjourned the matter to December 21 where it said that it will hear the issue of impleadment as well.
