Lawyers of the newly formed Telangana High Court Advocates Association today conducted a protest at the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad..As part of the efforts to effect the bifurcation of the existing High Court, the advocates have been boycotting proceedings at district courts throughout the state since June 6 this year..Speaking to Bar & Bench, General Secretary of the Advocates Association, V Rama Krishna Reddy revealed a few details about the ‘Chalo High Court’ programme..“Firstly, we are demanding separate high courts for the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh..We are also protesting the allocation of judges to the subordinate judiciary. More than 100 judges who are natives of Andhra Pradesh have opted for posts in Telangana. This is against the Reorganisation Act and the by-laws; it has been done without following any rules or guidelines..Today’s boycott was complete and successful, all the advocates abstained from court. So far as the lower courts are concerned, we will review our programme today.”.Reddy also confirmed that the Advocates Associations had a meeting with Acting Chief Justice DB Bhosale, who promised to address their concerns..These protests have been going ever since the formation of Telangana. The district courts were boycotted for more than two weeks in February last year, with lawyers protesting the conduct of civil judge examination for the two states. In March last year, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking the establishment of a separate Bar Council for Telangana.
