With the Supreme Court set to re-open on July 2 after summer vacation, the new Roster has been notified pursuant to the order passed by Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra..The new Roster which will come into effect on July 2, lays down the subject category of cases that will be assigned to the Courts presided over by Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra and Justices Ranjan Gogoi, Madan Lokur, Kurian Joseph, AK Sikri, SA Bobde, NV Ramana, Arun Mishra, AK Goel, Rohinton Nariman, and AM Sapre..While CJI Misra will hear PILs and letter petitions, social justice matters, election matters, Habeas Corpus and Contempt of Court matters, Justice Gogoi, who now becomes the second most senior Judge of the Supreme Court will inter alia, deal with cases relating to labour laws, indirect taxation and personal Laws among other things..Some of the categories of cases that Justice Madan Lokur will look into include environmental matters, land acquisition cases, social justice matters as well as personal law cases. Justice Kurian Joseph will be assigned inter alia, cases pertaining to rent acts, labour laws and service matters..The newest member of the Supreme Court Collegium after Justice Chelameswar’s retirement, Justice AK Sikri will look into taxation matters, election and criminal matters along with contempt cases and personal law cases..The Roster of Supreme Court judges came into public domain from February this year in the wake of the press conference held by the then four most senior Judges after the Chief Justice of India..With a vacancy created after Justice Chelameswar’s retirement, the Roster has now been revised..Read the new roster below.
