The Supreme Court has pulled up six states for cow vigilantism

The Supreme Court has today issued notice to six states, calling upon them to explain the rising instances of violence in the name of cow protection.

A Bench of Justices Dipak Misra and AM Khanwilkar today issued notice to the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Gujarat and Karnataka.

Senior Advocate Sanjay Hegde, who appeared for activist-petitioner Tehseen Poonawalla, cited the recent killing in Rajasthan over suspicions of illegal smuggling of cows for slaughter.
