Supreme Court initiates suo motu contempt proceedings against Indian Express and The Pioneer Says both papers guilty of distorted reporting

Taking strong exception to reports published in the Indian Express and The Pioneer today, a Bench of Justices GS Singhvi and SJ Mukhopadhaya have initiated suo motu contempt proceedings against the publishers of both papers. In an order passed today, the Bench has issued notice to the publisher of Indian Express, The Pioneer as well as Indian Express correspondent Utkarsh Anand, the author behind the piece which appeared in the Indian Express. The next date of hearing is October 30, 2012 and the Court has appointed Attorney General GE Vahanvati and Senior Advocate PP Rao to act as amicus in the matter.
