Sunanda Pushkar case transferred to fast track court

The case against senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in relation to the mysterious death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar was today transferred to a fast track court. Pushkar was found dead in her hotel room in 2014..After several years of investigation, the Delhi Police has charged Tharoor with abetment to suicide. There have been various theories surrounding Pushkar’s death, including the allegation made by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy that she was murdered before revealing the murky dealings connected to the Indian Premier League..Swamy had also filed a public interest litigation seeking a court-monitored SIT investigation into the death of Sunanda Pushkar which was dismissed by the Division Bench of the Delhi High Court..During the hearing of the petition, the Court had asked the Police to explain as to why it had taken so long to investigate the matter and had directed it to file the status report..Pushkar’s son Shiv Menon had also filed an intervention application in the case stating that he should also be made a party. He had also stated the Swamy’s sole objective was to garner publicity through the said petition..Today, Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmendra Singh of the Patiala House Court transferred the matter to Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal. The judge stated that since the chargesheet is more than 3000 pages, he would need more time to peruse the same..According to Supreme Court directions, cases involving politicians have to be heard by a special judge so that the trial can be expedited. Therefore, the matter was transferred to ACMM Vishal..The matter will be heard next on May 28.
