He practised as junior advocate under former Attorney General K Parasaran and was later recruited as District and Sessions Judge in 1987..Thereafter, he worked as the Special Officer in the Vigilance Cell of the Madras High Court. He was elevated as a judge of the Madras High Court in 2000; thirteen years later he was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
