Today, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy lashed out at Sunanda Pushkar’s son Shiv Menon after the latter accused him of milking Pushkar’s death for publicity..Swamy, who had filed a public interest litigation demanding a court-monitored probe into the death of Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar, said in court,.“I am a multidimensional politician and a member of parliament. I have been involved in various public interest matters including the 2G spectrum case. There is no shortage of publicity for me. To say that I am using this matter for publicity amounts to lowering the dignity of the court.” .Appearing for Pushkar’s son, Senior Advocate Vikas Pahwa submitted that the intention behind Swamy’s plea is to sensationalize the matter. He further stated that the son was very keen on finding out what had happened to his mother and has written multiple letters to the authorities from time to time. However, he never authorized anyone to file a petition in court..Swamy retorted by saying that Menon had written no letter inquiring about his mother’s death. He further stated that Menon is only interested in his mother’s property which is situated in Canada. Swamy also accused Menon of having done jail time in Dubai on drug related charges..The Bench of Justices GS Sistani and Chander Shekhar observed that the matter had already attracted wide publicity even before Swamy approached the court,.“In all criminal matters especially in cases like these, there is bound to be a public debate.” .The Court pulled up the Delhi Police and the central government for the delay in concluding the investigation and asked them to file an additional status report..“Why did it take more than 2 years for conducting the investigation? We want specific timelines. Here is somebody who expired a long time back. First it was said that it is suicide, then you said it is homicide. We want to know…”.The Bench then adjourned the matter to August 30, without hearing the application filed by Swamy accusing the Delhi Police of botching up the investigation. This was due to the absence of ASG Sanjay Jain.
