Strike turns violent at Rajasthan High Court

The Rajasthan Bar Association, on Friday, followed the footsteps of the Karnataka Bar Association when they went on a rampage when the High Court of Rajasthan continued hearing matters despite the association having called for a strike..Amit Yadav, a Rajasthan based advocate had cited police atrocities as reasons for his suicide. The peaceful strike, originally to demand action on the police, of over 500 lawyers turned violent outside the court of the Chief Justice, blocking lawyers and litigants from entering. The visibly upset Bench, comprising Chief Justice Jagadish Bhalla and Justice M.N. Bhandari told newly re-elected president of the Association, Madhav Mitra that the Bench was not taken into confidence about the strike..Police escorted advocate Aruneshwar Gupta who was appearing in court when the picketing commenced, from the court at the behest of the Bench. Abhinav Sharma, appearing in the Justice N.N. Mathur Commission matter, was forcibly dragged out of the court by the lawyers. Later, the same mob ransacked his chambers..The Bar Association is now contemplating expelling Abhinav Sharma and Aruneshwar Gupta from the membership of the High Court Bar Association. A police probe has been ordered into the incident.
