Senior Advocate P Wilson has been nominated as a candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party..An announcement to this effect was made this morning. The other DMK candidate nominated for the upcoming elections is General Secretary of the party’s Labour Progressive Federation, K Shanmugam..P Wilson is a former Additional Solicitor General of India (ASG). He served as ASG between August 2012 and May 2014. Earlier, he has also served as an Additional Advocate General (AAG) for Tamil Nadu between August 2008 and May 2011. .Following his enrolment in 1989, he joined the chambers of former Tamil Nadu Advocate General, KV Venkatapathi. After he set up independent practice, he went on to serve as the Standing Counsel for various state entities including the Chennai Corporation, the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation and the State Transport Corporation. .In 2005, he was appointed Senior Central Government Standing Counsel in the Madras High Court, following which he was appointed the Special Government Pleader. He was designated a senior advocate in 2009, a year after he was appointed AAG for Tamil Nadu. He resigned from the post of AAG in 2011 along with other law officers.
