Christ College of Law, Bangalore, now known as School of Law, Christ University (SLCU) was established in 2006 under Bangalore University..The first batch of students is graduating from SLCU later this year. The campus recruitment process has just got over and there are many happy faces amongst those graduating. Given the lack of ‘National Law School’ tag one may have been a bit apprehensive of the placement process. However, the overall placement process at SCLU has progressed well..The placement cell has managed to place 22 out of 52 of its first batch of students. The Placement Cell saw a healthy mix of top recruiters from every field, such as law firms (Trilegal, 3 students; L&S, 2 students; Narasappa, Doraswamy and Raja, 1 student; Poovayya & Co, 1 student), top corporate houses (such as Infosys, 3 students; GMR 2 students, and Roamware 1 student), a leading LPO (CPA Global, 4 students), litigation opportunities (such as Adlaw Partners, 1 student; Harsha & Co, 2 students and Parekh and Co. 1 student), and opportunities with individual counsels practicing in Delhi and Chennai..A few students having undergone the assessment internships or interviews are waiting to hear back from the recruiters. These include law firms, such as Nishith Desai Associates, Dua Associates, Trilegal, PXV Law Partners and Poovayya & Co. The recruiters who visited the campus have appreciated the quality of students interviewed and have expressed interest to come back for 2012 placements. SLCU is now also hoping for a similar response from international firms for their next batch..The highest pay package went up to Rs. 12.8 lakh per annum with the average pay package being Rs. 5.2 lakh per annum. A few students have also got acceptance for their post graduate degree in colleges like National University of Singapore (NUS), King’s College London and University College of London while one student would be joining the Law School of Tanzania for a nine-month license certificate program..Speaking to Bar & Bench Gautam Chawla, Convener, Placement and Recruitment Cell said, “The placements process for the first batch began on a rolling basis from January 2011. Recruiters visited our campus and conducted written tests and interviews”..He further added, “The recruiters were very impressed with the students and the resources provided by the institution. The feedback from all the recruiters has been positive and has firmly established that our law school is at par with all the others. The quality of the students was so high that on several occasions the recruiters recruited more than the initial number they had in mind before visiting the campus. We take pride in this that the recruiters (who had never visited before) recruited more than one student which only shows the faith they had in us and the students”.
