Supreme Court Bar Association Secretary and Samajwadi Party loyalist, Gaurav Bhatia has chosen to resign from all posts of the Samajwadi Party, ending an association that has spanned for over fifteen years..Bhatia, a familiar face in the Apex Court, took the decision on account of non-fulfilment of the promises he had made in his manifesto. Speaking to Bar & Bench, he said,.“The legal fraternity in the Supreme Court and the state of Uttar Pradesh is like my family. During the 2012 electoral campaign, members of the Samajwadi Party legal wing, along with myself, had visited some forty Bar Associations in the State and made several promises, which, I feel were unfulfilled to some extent. .Therefore, I felt it was my moral responsibility to resign, and I hope my decision will be occasion for the party to reflect and ponder over the needs of the legal fraternity.
