The tenure of Dipak Misra – the 45th Chief Justice of India – comes to an end today. After a stint lasting a little over a year, Justice Misra helmed the Supreme Court for the last time today. He will be replaced by Justice Ranjan Gogoi, the first Chief Justice of India from the North-East of India..Justice Misra was appointed as an additional judge of the Orissa High Court on in January 1996, and transferred to the Madhya Pradesh High Court in March 1997. He became a permanent Judge in December 1997. Justice Misra has been Chief Justice of two high courts – the Patna High Court and the Delhi High Court..He was elevated to the Supreme Court on October 10, 2011, and was made Chief Justice of India on August 28, 2017..As is customary, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) is hosting a farewell function for Justice Misra.
