The Supreme Court today directed a team of two doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to visit an 8-month-old female rape victim, to ascertain her medical condition..A Bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud passed the order while hearing a petition filed by advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava..The petitioner has sought the Apex Court’s assistance for providing better health care support to the infant and has also sought compensation for the victim..The Bench directed that the team of two doctors shall immediately visit Kalavati Saran Children’s Hospital and ascertain whether or not the infant can be shifted to AIIMS..The Court has also asked that in case the doctors are of the opinion that the infant cannot be shifted to AIIMS, they shall immediately tender their personal assistance to the infant..The matter was mentioned this morning before the CJI Misra’s court, and was later taken up for hearing at 2 pm..The Bench was assisted by three Additional Solicitors General – PS Narasimha, Pinky Anand and Tushar Mehta, who were of the unanimous opinion that the health of the infant child should be of paramount importance..The team of doctors will submit their report to the Court tomorrow..The infant was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin on Sunday, and has been fighting for her life at Kalavati Saran Children’s Hospital after sustaining severe injuries.
