RGNUL issues dress code electricity code and bans Facebook

Recently Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala issued two notifications. One was regarding dress code which mandated students to wear uniforms on Tuesdays and Fridays. Failure to adhere to the dress code will mean forgoing attendance for the entire day plus fine..The second notification was regarding curtailing of electricity in the hostel from 9 am to 3 pm except on Sundays and other holidays..Lawctopus had obtained a copy of these notifications and are available here..Lawctopus, yesterday reported that a RGNUL student captured a video of how unhygienic food was being prepared in RGNUL’s kitchen and the same was uploaded on Facebook. As soon as the administration got to know about this, they instructed the student to remove the video from Facebook. Thereafter, the authorities have also banned Facebook in RGNUL.”.Speaking to Bar & Bench a RGNUL said, “Few days back few girls were wearing revealing clothes in the campus which forced the University to come out with the dress code notification. Why should all of us suffer for the mistakes of the few? We have brought this to the notice of the University and they promised us that a revised notification will be out soon.” When we asked the student if Facebook was banned on campus, the student replied, “Sadly, it is blocked for the time being.”.The Lawctopus report has received mixed reactions from students.
