The petition filed by Senior advocate Indira Jaising in the Supreme Court challenging the process of designation of Senior Advocates is listed for final hearing tomorrow.
The case has been listed before a Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi, Rohinton Fali Nariman and Navin Sinha as item number 301 at 2 pm.
The Supreme Court had put Senior designations on hold since the petition filed by Jaising, challenging the process for designating advocates as Seniors, is pending before it.
However, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) had brought the issue to the notice of the Chief Justice of India who had then assured the office bearers of SCBA that he will talk to Justice Ranjan Gogoi to see if the Court can resume the process of designating lawyers as Senior Advocates.
Subsequently, Jaising had, on August 3, mentioned the matter before Justice Gogoi, who has been presiding the Bench hearing the case. Justice Gogoi had then told Jaising that he has recused from the full court meetings of Supreme Court to designate lawyers as Senior Advocates since he is hearing the case. He also said that he will hear the case on August 10.
