The National Green Tribunal (NGT) today gave the Chief Secretaries of eight States a final chance for complying with its order to submit data regarding pollution..A Bench comprising Chairperson Swatanter Kumar directed the Chief Secretaries to submit details about the most polluted cities in their concerned State by tomorrow or face arrest. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Punjab are the eight States..The order was issued in a plea to ban Diesl vehicles with more than 2000 cc engine capacity. The ban is currently in force only in the National Capital Region (NCR)..During the last hearing in the case, the NGT had asked the States for data pertaining to most polluted cities in different States. It had sought information on the number of vehicles in the most polluted cities and the population of those cities..The State had failed to furnish the same inviting the Tribunal’s wrath..The NGT has made it clear that bailable warrants will be issued against Chief Secretaries of those States which fail to furnish information by tomorrow.
