The Supreme Court today stayed the order of the Delhi High Court which had allowed Rajeev Saxena to travel abroad for medical treatment..The Vacation Bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and BR Gavai issued notice in the case today after the Centre moved the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court’s order..On June 10, the High Court had allowed Rajeev Saxena – accused turned approver in the AgustaWestland case – to travel abroad in order to seek medical treatment for blood cancer..When the matter came up for hearing yesterday, the Court expressed its inclination to enhance the surety amount imposed by the High Court to a sum of ₹5 crore. The Court thus asked if Saxena’s family members would be ready to give the requisite surety, before adjourning the case..Solicitor General Tushar Mehta today told the Court that some new facts have emerged and fresh allegations have been levelled against Saxena. He apprised the Court that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will lodge a fresh FIR against Saxena and that an additional affidavit in this regard will be filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED)..Further, to answer the Court’s question regarding surety, counsel appearing for Rajeev Saxena told the Court that his client’s sister may not possess property worth the amount of surety the Court was proposing to impose..The Court thus issued notice in the case while staying the High Court’s order, and will hear the matter after three weeks. Additionally, the Court also directed that a medical board be constituted by the Director of AIIMS to conduct a medical examination of Saxena. The report of this board is to be placed before the Court in three weeks..Rajiv Saxena is accused of providing corporate structure across the globe for laundering ill-gotten money/proceeds of crime to influence the contract for the supply of 12 VVIP helicopters in favour of AgustaWestland..Saxena was arrested by the ED on January 31 after he was extradited from Dubai. After spending 12 days in ED custody, Saxena was remanded to judicial custody by the Court.
