Advocate Raktim Gogoi, son of the Supreme Court’s Justice Ranjan Gogoi, has asked for his name to be deleted from the list of the Punjab government’s Panel Counsel..The state government had come out with a long list of Panel Counsel to conduct their cases in the the Supreme Court and other courts outside Chandigarh..The list, comprising 76 lawyers, had many prominent names, including relatives of sitting judges..One of the lawyers in the Panel, advocate Raktim Gogoi, has written a letter to the Advocate General of Punjab and the Special Secretary, Home and Justice, Government of Punjab stating that his consent was never sought before inclusion in the Panel..The letter sent today states the following:.“This is to specifically record that no consent in respect of inclusion of my name in your panel has been obtained from me. It is fundamental that before inclusion of any counsel’s name on any panel, his express consent is required to be taken.”.It is therefore requested that my name be deleted from the Panel”..A copy of the letter has also been sent to the office of the Advocate General of Punjab..Bar & Bench had reported yesterday about the Panel of Counsel engaged by Punjab.
