A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court praying that the polling of the Delhi Bar Council elections should also be carried out at various District Courts, Tribunals and the Supreme Court due to paucity of space at the Delhi High Court..The petition filed by Advocate Amish Aggarwala, who is desirous of contesting the election to the post of ‘Member’ of the Council, also seeks to increase the number of days of polling..The petition states that,.“Since the last elections in 2009, there have been approximately 25,000 more voters added by the Respondent to this list, which means that the number of voters has doubled since then. Despite the removal of several non-practising advocates in the verification process, there is an unprecedented number of voters in this election.”.The petition further states that the venue of polling has been confined to the Delhi High Court premises, which is ill equipped to handle such a large crowd on the two dates of the elections,.“Many may decide not to cast their vote in order to avoid being harrowed at the venue.”.The matter will now be heard on Monday, February 5.
