US-based Private Equity firm Blackstone has invested Rs. 500 crore ($111 million) for a 28 percent stake in an Indian power producer Visa Power Ltd..The Mumbai office of Trilegal advised Blackstone with a team led by Partner Nishant Parikh along with Senior Associate Rohan Ghosh Roy and Associate Anirudh Agarwala..The Delhi office of Amarchand & Mangaldas advised Visa Power with a team led by Partner Harry Chawla along with Principal Associate Puja Sondhi and Senior Associate Ramanuj Gopalan..Visa Power Ltd is an independent power producer and is a part of the $1.1 billion Kolkata-based Visa Group. The core asset of Visa Power is a 1,200 MW captive-mine based, coal-fired power plant in Chhattisgarh which is in an advanced stage of development..According to VCCircle, the deal will take the private equity giant’s direct exposure to the Indian power sector to Rs. 2,125 crore ($471 million). Last year, Blackstone had invested $60 million in Monnet Power Company Ltd, a subsidiary of Monnet Ispat, which is developing a 1,050 MW coal-fired power plant in Orissa..Blackstone had also picked up a minority stake in Delhi-based Moser Baer Projects Private Limited for Rs. 1,350 crore ($300 million).
