Recently appointed Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice DN Patel has said that the High Court will dispose of 25-year-old cases with the help of the Bar Council members at the earliest, The Indian Express reports..Emphasizing that judges alone could not dispose of cases without the help of lawyers, Justice DN Patel further stated that meetings were being held with district judges to deal with the pendency of old cases..Justice Patel was speaking at a felicitation event organized by the Bar Council Of Delhi welcoming him and four other newly appointed judges – Justices Talwant Singh, Rajnish Bhatnagar, Asha Menon and Brijesh Sethi – to the Delhi High Court..The event also marked the launch of the Bar Council of Delhi’s online payment facility..Justice Patel took the opportunity to speak about the problems faced by junior advocates. He appealed to the Bar Council of Delhi to help them with issues of low stipends and expensive law books. He stated that such initiatives were already in place in Jharkhand..Speaking on the training of young members of the Bar, Justice Patel remarked that law colleges were up to mark, but one must also know how a court functions..Justice Patel also expressed his happiness at being appointed as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. He thanked his fellow judges who taught him how to run a paperless court..Explaining the Bar Council of Delhi’s online payment facility, Chairperson KC Mittal said that advocates could now avail the facility for payment of a range of fees payable to the Council through a POS machine, payment gateway, QR Code and UPI.
