Justice GS Patel of the Bombay High Court has brought in some changes as regards how matters will be dealt with by his court starting Monday..As per the latest sitting list, Patel J has been assigned to work on the appellate side, where he will hear first appeals, appeals from orders of Bombay civil courts, civil contempt references from the district judiciary, and specially assigned matters..In a departure from usual procedure, Patel J has decided not to have a separate production board for matters that have been mentioned on the same day. Matters mentioned for urgent hearing will be taken up by him only on the next day, where it will be part of the supplementary list. In effect, appellants coming to the High Court from other places in the state will not get relief on the day they mention their matters..He has also limited the number of matters notified on the supplementary board to 10-15 matters. Further, he warns that if matters are mentioned without showing reasons for urgency, heavy costs will be imposed. Another change he wants to bring in is to have a supplementary board even on Mondays, which is not standard practice..A positive change is that senior citizens will be given priority for all matters. In a recent order, he had dispensed with the appearance of an aged litigant and called for disabled-friendly courtrooms..The other changes are that appeals from orders will be listed every day on the daily board, and that there will be separate weekly/final hearing board to be taken up on Thursdays and Fridays..Read the notice:
