The National Institute of Law University in Bhopal has seen a number of ragging complaints this academic year, leading students to cancel the “Freshers” that was scheduled to be held this past weekend..The complaints were first reported earlier this month, following which NLIU authorities tried to introduce confidence building measures at the institute. The problems seem to be exacerbated by the fact that the alleged victims are hesitant to approach or appear before the anti-ragging committee..As per the Times of India report, the alleged victims are first-year students at the institute who told ToI that,.“We are having our exams next month and with all this we are not able to concentrate on studies. Today they just caught us in the evening and ragged us until 11:45 pm….Most of the bad seniors are from old boys hostel (second year). We know some of the names of seniors who are involved in ragging.”.NLIU’s director, Prof. SS Singh told the Times of India that,.“We have been asking complainants to come forward and tell us. However, no one has contacted us so far. In this situation, it is not possible for NLIU administration to fix the responsibility over any senior student.”
