NLUJ to organise national symposium on Electoral Reforms and Voter Empowerment on August 24 2012 VS Sampath CEC of India to be chief guest

The Centre for Human Welfare and Empowerment (CHWE) at the National Law University Jodhpur, (NLUJ) will be organising a national symposium on “Electoral Reforms and Voter Empowerment”. The event shall be held at the NLUJ campus on August 24, 2012. The Chief Election Commissioner of India, VS Sampath, is the Chief Guest for the event..As per the press release, the CHWE is one of the “primary centres of learning and research” at NLUJ and regularly provides “feedback on the current developments in the field of administration and governance”..The Symposium is open to a wide section of society including academicians, social and political activists, students and bureaucrats. As per the press release, there shall be a panel of eminent speakers who will be able to provide “deep insights on various aspects” of the chosen theme..Speaking to Bar & Bench, CHWE’s Executive Director, Dr. Om Prakash, said that there was a simple reason for choosing the topic of electoral reforms. “Most of the problems such as corruption, black money, and apathy in electoral process” are all intricately linked. There is a dire need to create awareness in the general public as to “why their votes matter for the future of the nation”..Dr. Prakash also said that there are several other events planned in the near future. The Centre for Human Welfare and Development also plans to undertake “research based projects on various social, political and legal issues”..There is a registration fee of Rs.500/- per participant which includes meals and symposium materials.
