NLU Jodhpur hosts Convocation for Graduating Class of 2011 Sixth Convocation has Justice GS Singhvi as Chief Guest

The National Law University, Jodhpur (NLU J) recently conducted its sixth convocation, for the graduating Class of 2011. Undergraduate Degrees were conferred upon 78 students of the undergraduate course while 54 students received their post-graduate degrees. Eight doctoral degrees were also awarded. The event was presided over by the Chief Guest, Justice G.S.Singhvi of the Supreme Court; Justice Amitava Roy, the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court and Chancellor of NLU J, and Justice (Redt) N.N. Mathur, NLU J’s Vice Chancellor..The ceremony saw the presentation of the University’s Progress Report by the Vice Chancellor. In his report, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the various events organised, initiatives taken, and the achievements of the students of the University. He made special mention of the team from this University that won the Stetson International Moot Court Competition 2012, of a second year student going on to win an International Essay competition and being one of three students selected to visit the UNO Office and meet the Secretary General Ban-Ki-Moon..Students were awarded gold medals for their academic achievements. Adhirath Singh Palawat was awarded the University Gold Medal for the highest CGPA amongst the undergraduate students, Vibhooti Malhotra was awarded the Nanibala Mitra Gold Medal for the best lady student of the undergadaute course, and Sannoy Das won the gold medal for best all round student..Looking back at his time at NLU J, Sannoy admitted that, as with most law schools, “[NLU J] was never without controversy, irritation and other worrisome experiences, but it is always a fair trade, because you are more likely to leave a law school better off than you were when you started. Every young university has its frailties, and this isn’t one without its fair share of problems, but they do melt to insignificance when one considers the effort that the University puts in overcoming them.”.Chief Justice Amitava Roy delivered the convocation address in which he spoke about the present ethical and moral condition present in the world, and the elements that seek to corrupt today’s youth. He said that today’s youth belong to a generation that inspires immense optimism about India’s progress. The Chief Justice concluded his address by talking about the many challenges the country faces, in the form of communal differences, language difference, province differences, etc. He ended his speech with a quote from a well-known poet, “Life’s’ battles do not always go to the faster or the strongest or the fastest man; Soon or late the man who wins is the man who thinks he can.”.This article is based on a report provided by NLU J student, Pavitra Venkateswaran.
