NLU-Delhi creates a new paradigm – 7814 Students for 70 seats

The results of the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) conducted by National Law University, Delhi (NLU-D) were declared yesterday. More than 7,800 students wrote the exam on May 1, 2011 with aspirations to enlist themselves in one of the fastest upcoming Law School in the country..With a small intake of just 80 and with an even smaller number for the general category (52 seats) the admission process ensures a student harvest of the highest quality. 10 seats are also reserved for foreign nationals who are exempted from the entrance exam..NLU-Delhi saw a heavy increase in the number of test-takers with approximately a rise of 5,000 applications as compared to last year. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and the AILET are the two main examinations given by law aspirants throughout the country. CLAT offers admission to 11 National Law Schools and approximately 24,000 students appeared for CLAT this year..The cut-off mark for the general category is 105 marks out of 150, which 15 candidates managed to score. Their selections will now be decided by the 10+2 marks statement with only 10 being selected out of the 15..The cut-off for the Scheduled Caste Category, Scheduled Tribe Category and Persons with Disability is 85, 80 and 74 respectively..Sonakshi Saxena from Delhi is the highest scorer with 118 marks followed by Malika Chadha and Nayan Banerjee who scored 115 marks. A very interesting fact is that all the top three rankers are from the same high school, D.P.S, R.K. Puram, New Delhi..Bar & Bench spoke to the rank holders after the results were declared..Malika Chadha (Rank 2, 115 marks) said, “The AILET was the best of all the papers I had given. It had a lot of repeated questions from the previous year papers of NLSIU. That really helped in time management as I was able to finish the paper at least 10 minutes early and allowed me a quick revise”..Nayan Banerjee (Rank 3, 115 marks) said, “Right now, I am ecstatic. Didn’t expect such a good result. I’m very happy to know that my consistent work has paid. CLAT was a very challenging paper, but whatever happens, I’m happy now”..Raunaq Chandrashekhar (Rank 9, 108 marks) said, “The AILET was a moderate paper, but the cut-off is lower than what was predicted (which I’m now glad about). The past year NLSIU papers were definitely of good help. I remember I was smiling in the examination hall when I saw the questions in the legal reasoning and the logic section since the text was verbatim from the 2005 papers”..When asked of his hopes on the CLAT paper he replied, “It was upsetting to see that a law school like West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS) could make such a paper. The paper was too lengthy and I left quite a few questions. Either ways seeing how good NLU-D is and how well it is coming up, I’m definitely taking admission there”.
