NLSIU grad Srividhya Ragavan among contenders for NLU Delhi Vice-Chancellor post

National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore graduate Srividhya Ragavan has confirmed that she is in contention to become Vice-Chancellor at National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi)..She was part of the first batch to pass out of NLSIU in 1994..Ragavan said that she had been “tapped up” by NLU Delhi, which sought details of her qualifications and experience after viewing her as a candidate with the credentials to fill the vacant Vice-Chancellor post..Speaking to Bar & Bench from the United States of America, Ragavan said that she had been deeply involved with India; a comment that is reflected in her writings on issues pertaining to international intellectual property disputes and their implications on access to affordable medicine in this country. .After graduating from NLSIU in 1994, Ragavan went on to do her LL.M. from King’s College, University of London. After a stint as Visiting Scholar at the University of Washington School of Law, she pursued her SJD from George Washington University Law School, Washington DC..She has served as an Assistant Professor at NLSIU, and has also worked as a Visiting Faculty member at NALSAR, Hyderabad. In the United States, she taught at the University of Oklahoma College of Law..Currently a Professor of Law at Texas A&M University, she has been vocal on issues pertaining to Indo-US trade and the potential impact of policy changes vis-à-vis India..According to reliable sources, other contenders for the job include National Law University, Odisha (NLU Odisha) Vice-Chancellor Prof Srikrishna Deva Rao and Prof PS Jaswal, who is at the helm of affairs at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala..While Dr Rao offered no comment, Dr Jaswal could not be contacted at the time of publication..NLU Delhi had invited applications to fill the post of Vice-Chancellor in October this year, in light of the fact that the second term of its founding Vice-Chancellor Prof Ranbir Singh has expired. Prof Singh has been at the helm of affairs since 2008, before which he was Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR from 1998- 2008.
