The Yearly Reports: What happened in the Supreme Court in 2018

2018 was one of the most eventful years in the history of the Supreme Court of India. The year witnessed the unprecedented Judges Press conference, as the four senior-most sitting judges convened at the residence of Justice Jasti Chelameswar on January 12. They raised apprehensions about the functioning of then Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, at a time when allegations of Executive interference into the affairs of the Judiciary were already rife..The year also witnessed several landmark judgments. The Court read down Section 377 of Indian Penal Code to the extent it criminalized consensual sex between adults, irrespective of gender. It upheld the validity of the Aadhaar scheme, while striking down certain provisions of the Aadhaar Act.
