The accused was later arrested. According to the report, Shikkeri alleged that the reason for the attack was a complaint filed by her against Bagalkot BJP General Secretary Raju Naikar for harassing her over a property dispute. However, both Mahantesh and Naikar denied the same. While Mahantesh said that his was assault was not due to provocation by someone, Naikar said that allegations against him are part of political conspiracy and that he had not instigated anyone to assault Shikkeri.
