The Central government assured the Delhi High Court on Wednesday that it will provide all requisite medical treatment to convicted Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik as and when required..Advocate Rajat Nair appeared for the Union government before Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta and made the statement, which was taken on record by the Court.“Learned counsel for the respondent (Union of India) submits that they are duty bound to provide necessary medical treatment to the petitioner (Malik) as and when required in accordance with law,” the Court recorded in its order.The High Court then disposed of the plea filed by Malik who approached the Court seeking directions to take him to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to be treated for cardiac and kidney ailments. .During the previous hearing, the Court had asked the government to file a status report on the issue.Representing the government, Nair told the Court today that on February 13, Malik complained of dizziness after which he was examined by jail doctors who discovered that he had voluntarily stopped taking prescribed medicines.He was subsequently taken to AIIMS and accorded medical treatment, the Court was informed. Malik’s counsel submitted that he has no objection to the plea being disposed of if the government says proper medical treatment will be provided to him..Malik is serving a life sentence in a terror funding case and is lodged in Tihar jail. The NIA's appeal seeking the death penalty for him is pending before the Delhi High Court.Malik was convicted by an NIA Court for the offences under Sections 120B, 121, and 121A of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 13 and 15 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) read with Section 120B of the IPC, besides Sections 17, 18, 20, 38 and 39 of the UAPA.
