Newly appointed Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi recently said that he would strive to make courts accessible to all, especially those from marginalised and underprivileged communities..“It will be my endeavour to make our courts accessible to all sections of society and protect the interests of marginalised and underprivileged communities. I will endeavour to make Karnataka the best judiciary in the country with the cooperation of all stakeholders, continuing the good work of my predecessors. I assure my brother and sister judges that I am one amongst them and I will be available to them at all times", said the newly appointed Chief Justice..Justice Awasthi was speaking at the ceremonial welcome arranged for him by the High Court and the Karnataka State Bar Council..During his speech, he said that the judiciary of Karnataka has immensely contributed to the jurisprudence in India. “Right since its inception, the High Court and the judiciary of Karnataka have immensely contributed to the jurisprudence and legal fields in India. This iconic High Court has produced several excellent legal luminaries both from the Bar and the Bench, some of whom have adorned the highest positions in the judiciary.”.Justice Awasthi also mentioned that he was told great things about the members of the Bar - that they are quite learned and that they extended their full co-operation in the administration of justice. He also appreciated the Court for its effective functioning and case clearance ratio even during the COVID-19 pandemic. "I am told that the Karnataka judiciary is ahead in the use of modern technology and that the hybrid mode of functioning of the High Court during the pandemic has been a success to a great extent. Even during the pandemic, the brother and sister judges of this Court worked relentlessly and they received excellent co-operation from the members of the Bar. As a result of which, the case clearance ratio of Karnataka has been exceeding."
