The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice to a real estate firm on a plea filed by former cricketer Yuvraj Singh seeking appointment of an arbitrator to decide the disputes between them..Justice C Hari Shankar briefly heard Singh's plea and sought response from the real estate firm, Brilliant Etoile Private Limited.Singh has alleged violation of personality rights and delay in delivery of a flat booked by him with the company. .Singh had booked a flat with the firm in Delhi's Hauz Khas in 2021. At the time, the flat was stated to be around ₹14.10 crore in value.The former cricketer received the possession letter in November 2023 but when he inspected the property, the flat was found to be of sub-standard quality. Singh has said that the builder compromised on the quality of material and downgraded the quality of fittings, furnishings, lighting and finishing of the apartment. He, therefore, sought damages for the delay in the delivering the flat and for the use of sub-standard materials. .On the aspect of violation his personality rights, Singh has said that the developer misused his brand value and violated the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by using his personality rights beyond the term of the agreement. Singh's personality to promote the project could not have been used after November 2023 as per the MoU, but the builder allegedly continued to do so. Singh has said that he is aggrieved by the alleged continued commercial use of the services provided by him including the use of his photographs on billboards, project site, social media posts, articles etc. despite expiry of the MoU..Yuvraj Singh was represented by Rizwan Law Associates.
