In another milestone for the e-courts project and modernization of District Courts in Delhi, a Virtual Court for online payment of traffic challan was launched on July 26..The Virtual Court will be presided over by Ruchi Aggarwal Asrani, an officer of Delhi Judicial Service in Central District, Tis Hazari Courts..The project was launched by retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Madan B Lokur who is the Honorary Chairman of the E-Committee, Supreme Court of India. The project was launched in the presence of the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice DN Patel as well as Districts Court Judges and other dignitaries..Members of the Delhi High Court’s Information Technology Committee, Chairman Justice Rajiv Shakdhar and Justices Sanjeev Sachdeva and Navin Chawla were also present..Available at https://vcourts.gov.in, the Virtual Court will cater to the traffic challans generated by the Delhi Traffic Police via the e-challan application. All traffic challans except those where the vehicle is impounded can be disposed of by making an online payment at the portal..This Virtual Court will help people in getting their traffic challans disposed of while sitting at home..As explained, the digital challan generated through the e-challan application will first be sent in digital form to the court. Subsequently, all challans for the day will be reflected in the Dashboard of the Virtual Court..The Virtual Court would then issue summons to the violator via mobile phone and email address of the violator in terms of Section 208 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988..This message will contain a web link which would redirect the violator to the virtual court web portal..The violator may then choose to either make the payment of traffic challan online or contest the challan as per law..The payment gateway is provided in collaboration with the State Bank of India. Payment can be made via credit card, debit card and/or online banking mechanism..Upon payment of fine, an acknowledgement will be generated showing the disposal of challan and transaction number..In April this year, the Delhi High Court had launched its state of the art, Telepresence Facility to expedite court proceedings..[Read Order]
