US-based businessman Gaurav Srivastava has sued a bunch of media houses and social media platforms alleging defamation for calling him a "conman"..Justice Prathiba M Singh heard the matter today and issued summons to newspaper, The Tribune. Srivastava claimed that The Tribune’s article titled 'How fake CIA agent Gaurav Srivastava tried to con his way to control a company' published in December 2023 was paid content and the same report was later cited by various other media networks as well.He alleged that it was a sponsored article. The Court then issued summons to The Tribune and asked the newspaper to disclose the details of the alleged sponsor to the plaintiff (Srivastava).The Court then posted the matter for consideration in June. .The Indian-origin businessman has sued India Today, The Tribune, Startup Insider, Tumblr and several other media platforms. He has also made YouTube, Google, Yahoo, Meta, and Twitter (X) parties to the case and has sought take down of the allegedly defamatory articles.Several articles have been published by the media channels alleging that Srivastava posed as a CIA agent and tried to con his way to control a company.Another news report said that US President Joe Biden’s campaign froze donations from Srivastava while yet another story claimed that the US-based think tank Atlantic Council was under pressure over the donations received from him..In his defamation suit, Srivastava alleged that these news reports were published without verification and with the sole intention to “enhance their revenues/viewership/circulations at the cost of Plaintiffs (Srivastava’s) reputation”.“The entire false publications have accused the Plaintiff as a "Scammer" even when there is no shred of evidence and iota of truth in such acquisitions which are part of a paid campaign to tarnish and harm the reputation of the Plaintiff,” the plea argued..Senior Advocate Arvind Nigam along with advocates Bharat Arora, Abhishek Singh and Gourav Arora appeared for Gaurav Srivastava.
