A Delhi court on Wednesday denied bail to five accused in the case related to death of three civil services aspirants due to the flooding of their coaching centre's basement in the Rajendra Nagar area..Judicial Magistrate Vinod Kumar of Tis Hazari Courts denied bail to SUV driver Manuj Kathuria and basement owners Tejinder Singh, Parvinder Singh, Harvinder Singh and Sarabjeet Singh..According to a PTI report, Kathuria’s lawyer argued that he is not even connected to the incident and cannot be blamed for the incident.Kathuria has been accused of driving his Force Gurkha car through the street that was flooded by rainwater. This caused the water to swell and breach the gates of the three-storey building and inundate the basement.Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava opposed Kathuria’s bail arguing that he aggravated the incident.Meanwhile, advocate Amit Chadha appeared for the basement owners and argued that the civic agencies are responsible for the incident and it was an act of god.The Court after considering the arguments denied bail to all five. .The Delhi High Court too questioned Delhi Police today on arresting SUV driver Kathuria in the case terming the investigation “strange”."What is police doing catching passersby driver? Have you questioned the person who has not done the desilting?" Acting Chief Justice Manmohan asked.The High Court has sought report from the Delhi Police and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in the matter and said it will hear the case on August 2.
