A Kanpur based advocate was shot dead on Friday, December 17 in the violence that broke out during the Kanpur Bar Association Elections. .According to a report by Dainik Jagran, it was alleged that firing happened in the air but it hit the lawyer Gautam Dutt, who was admitted to hospital where he died during treatment. .The local bar association elections were scheduled on December 17, but it had to be suspended due to the unruly behaviour of some candidates/ advocates. The voting was stopped and resumed two to three times, but eventually the Elders Committee took a decision at around 5:30 pm to call off the voting.When the committee announced the cancellation of the vote, the situation worsened with the rival factions of two contesting candidates coming face to face and after which a firing ensued.This is a developing story.
