Twitter has approached the Karnataka High Court challenging orders issued by the Central government asking the microblogging platform to take down certain content. .The Central government had recently asked Twitter to take down the certain content or face criminal action for non-compliance. Last year, the Uttar Pradesh Police had issued notice to for Twitter India head Manish Maheshwari under Section 41A CrPC. This was pursuant to an FIR registered against Twitter and others in the backdrop of tweets on a video wherein an elderly Muslim man was asked to shave his beard and was forced to chant "Vande Mataram" and "Jai Shri Ram".Maheshwari had then secured interim protection from Karnataka High Court.
